Christopher Crome, MD, is a Davenport native with more than 25 years of experience caring for patients, teaching physicians, and leading complex healthcare organizations. Crome Medicine represents the culmination of those experiences—and his belief that men benefit from a more personal, thoughtful, and comprehensive approach to their health.

Dr. Crome graduated from Davenport North High School in 1992. He attended the University of Northern Iowa, where he earned Bachelor of Science degrees in both chemistry and biology, graduating summa cum laude in December 1996. He married his wife, Jennifer, in 1997, and the couple moved to Iowa City, where he began his medical education at the University of Iowa College of Medicine.

After graduating from medical school in 2001, Dr. Crome returned to the Quad Cities to complete his family medicine residency at the Genesis Family Medicine Residency Program. He was selected to serve as chief resident during his final year of training.

Upon completing residency in 2004, Dr. Crome joined Genesis Health Group and opened a family medicine practice in Davenport. During the early years of his career, he also worked in urgent care, broadening his clinical experience and developing relationships throughout the local medical community.

His family medicine practice grew rapidly. Dr. Crome cared for patients in the outpatient setting while also following and treating them during hospitalizations at both Genesis Medical Center East and West campuses. This combination of outpatient and inpatient medicine allowed him to develop long-term relationships with patients while remaining directly involved during periods of serious illness.

Over time, his practice grew to include more than 3,000 patients.

Dr. Crome also developed a strong commitment to medical education. Beginning in 2012, he taught inpatient medicine to physicians training in the Genesis Family Medicine Residency Program. Teaching remained an important part of his career as he continued to practice full-time and assume increasing leadership responsibilities.

In 2007, Dr. Crome began serving on committees for both Genesis Health Group and Genesis Medical Center. In 2011, he was selected as one of the first physician division chairs for Genesis Health Group. In that role, he helped guide clinical and operational decision-making for the multispecialty physician group.

His leadership work included helping to design a new organizational structure, advising on strategic decisions, developing a physician compensation model, and supporting the transition from paper medical records to an electronic health record. He also served on the Medical Executive Committee for Genesis Medical Center Davenport and became the first chairman of the Genesis Accountable Care Organization Board.

In 2014, Dr. Crome was elected president of the medical staff at Genesis Medical Center Davenport. He continued practicing inpatient and outpatient family medicine, teaching residents, and serving in physician leadership roles through the end of 2015. At that time, he chose to reduce his administrative responsibilities so he could focus more fully on his patients, resident education, and family.

In November 2021, Dr. Crome was asked to serve as Vice President of Medical Affairs for Genesis Health System. After considerable reflection, he stepped away from his busy clinical practice to accept the position.

As Vice President of Medical Affairs, he was responsible for the Physician Advisor Program, care coordination, medical staff credentialing, peer review, and physician leadership throughout the health system. He also resumed teaching inpatient medicine to family medicine residents.

His responsibilities expanded in May 2023, when he was named Chief Medical Officer for Genesis Health System. In that role, Dr. Crome was responsible for advancing the safety and quality of care provided across the health system while continuing many of his responsibilities as Vice President of Medical Affairs.

He also served as the health system’s Designated Institutional Official, overseeing the relationship between the Genesis Family Medicine Residency Program, the health system, and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.

During 2024, Dr. Crome became increasingly involved in the operational leadership of MercyOne Genesis Medical Center Davenport as Genesis transitioned from a locally governed independent health system to a MercyOne entity.

In December 2024, he was named Chief Operating Officer of MercyOne Genesis Davenport Medical Center. In that role, he became responsible for the hospital’s strategic, financial, and operational performance. He also continued serving as Chief Medical Officer until a successor was appointed in May 2025.

As Chief Operating Officer, Dr. Crome helped lead the hospital’s continued integration into MercyOne. He supported the expansion of cardiac surgery and electrophysiology services, helped establish a new orthopedic surgery program, redesigned leadership responsibilities, and negotiated agreements with local physician groups to ensure that essential services remained available to the community.

These leadership experiences gave Dr. Crome a broad understanding of healthcare from nearly every perspective: primary care physician, hospital physician, educator, medical staff leader, health system executive, and hospital operator.

They also reinforced his belief that the traditional healthcare system often does not provide physicians or patients with enough time to focus deeply on prevention, long-term health, physical performance, cognitive health, nutrition, emotional well-being, and the practical habits that shape a person’s life.

In June 2026, Dr. Crome left his role as Chief Operating Officer to return to his greatest professional interests: caring for patients and teaching medicine.

Crome Medicine was created from that decision.

The practice reflects more than two decades of clinical experience and Dr. Crome’s belief that men deserve a physician who has the time to understand their health, their goals, their responsibilities, and the life they hope to lead.

Rather than focusing only on the treatment of disease, Crome Medicine is designed to help men evaluate their health comprehensively, identify meaningful risks, improve physical and cognitive performance, and develop an individualized plan for living with greater health, purpose, and capability.

By practicing independently and outside the constraints of traditional insurance-based care, Dr. Crome is able to spend more time with each member, provide greater access and continuity, and approach medical decisions with a long-term perspective.

Dr. Crome and his wife, Jennifer, have been married since 1997 and raised their two daughters in the Quad Cities. His deep personal and professional connection to the community remains central to his decision to open Crome Medicine in October 2026.

Crome Medicine is not simply a return to clinical practice. It is the expression of what Dr. Crome believes medicine can be when a physician has the time, freedom, and responsibility to care for the whole person.
