About Patricia Said M.S.N. R.N.
Patricia “Patti” Said, MSN, RN is a registered nurse and healthcare quality and safety leader with more than 30 years of experience in nursing, patient safety, healthcare quality, and operational leadership.
Said attended the University of Iowa, where she completed undergraduate coursework, before earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from St. Ambrose University, graduating magna cum laude. She continued her education and earned a Master of Science in Nursing from Walden University in 2014, graduating summa cum laude.
Said began her professional nursing career in 1995 at Genesis Medical Center–East Campus, where she spent nearly 14 years as an emergency department nurse and charge nurse. Her years in emergency nursing established the clinical foundation for a career that would ultimately focus on advancing patient safety, healthcare quality, and organizational excellence.
She later joined the Genesis Quality Department, serving for four years as a Patient Advocate. After receiving specialized training in Lean process improvement, Said transitioned into operational leadership and was promoted to Manager of the Genesis Orthopedic Unit. She served in that role for two years before being recruited to become the organization’s Patient Safety Officer, working under the Chief Medical Officer.
In 2018, Said was promoted to Director of Quality and Safety, and in 2020 she advanced to Executive Director of Quality and Safety. Following the 2023 partnership between Genesis Health System and MercyOne, she was named Regional Director of Quality and Safety. In this expanded leadership role, Said served as the quality and safety leader for MercyOne hospitals throughout Iowa and Illinois, providing strategic leadership focused on quality outcomes, patient safety, regulatory excellence, and continuous improvement.
Throughout her career, Said has been recognized for her commitment to nursing excellence, patient safety, quality improvement, and leadership. Her professional honors include the Genesis Health System Exemplary Nurse Achievement Award in 2008 and recognition as one of the 100 Great Iowa Nurses in 2013.
In 2021, Said received the National Women of Distinction Award after being nominated by former colleagues whom she led during her tenure as Orthopedic Manager. That same year, she was honored with the Genesis Health System Legend Award, recognizing her career-long contributions to the organization and her leadership in helping Genesis Health System achieve the prestigious IBM Watson Health 15 Top Health System Award in both 2020 and 2021.
Across more than three decades in healthcare, Said’s career has reflected a commitment to improving the patient experience, strengthening systems of care, developing healthcare professionals, and creating a culture in which quality and safety are shared responsibilities. Her progression from bedside emergency nursing to regional executive leadership reflects both her clinical foundation and her longstanding dedication to improving healthcare for patients, families, and the professionals who serve them.
